4 June 2022: Ortler Bike Marathon
At my second Ortler Bike Marathon in Vinschgau I went for the second longest circle:
Length: 68km
Elevation: 2400m
My racing time: 4:16.49 (average speed 16km/h)
First race in 2022. As such I did not feel well at the start, but then the first 1-2 hours of the course went quite ok. Unfortunately, after a bike park section I crashed in the last section as it became bumpy and steep and I have drifted at the edge of the track. No injury, but it took a while until I was comfortable again and the pains have disappeared. In the very last climb 200m remaining elevation, I ran into cramps which made me stop to recover. After that I was only able to pedal with reduced strength. Eventually all in all, it was an ok race, and I have gained a bit more of experiences…
Overall ranking 57 out of 160.
Over age 55 (i.e. age 55-64) ranked 5 out of 21
In this Italian race there are very different categories: Besides the elite category, there is a masters category which requires you need a license. But this is an Italian thing, there were only Italian racers. Moreover in my age category all of the masters were behind me.
